To all those who are calling this heresy because you can't vote for Biden and be a true Christian, this election isn't about policy. Biden has stated he will only be a one-term president. He isn't interested in trying to change policy. With a conservative majority on the Supreme Court, he won't be pushing a pro-choice agenda. He just wants to restore dignity to the office of the Presidency and stop the sociopath we have as a president from doing further damage to the integrity of our country. Should he win, in four years Kamala Harris will run for president and her agenda will be a radical, godless one that should be opposed by all Christians. But that is 4 years from now. Let take the Trump blinders off and vote the man out of office because he is a godless, soulless man who is only interested in promoting himself, and he's done it by catering to the religious right, pretending to be one of them. Nothing could be further from the truth and you all swallowed it hook, line and sinker. Signed, and Evangelical pastor.

Kamala Harris could be 4 MINUTES away from being president, should the unthinkable happen and we elect pro-abortion Joe. He's not in his right mind. Why do you think Pelosi is digging up the 25th amendment?

Thank you for not denying my assertion that Trump is a godless, soulless man who has only used the religious right for self-promotion. I'm not going live in fear of the "what if." The influence and reputation of the Evangelical Church has been irreparably destroyed because of its unholy alliance with Donald Trump. What a joke we have become. The cost to the church and to the name of Christ has been too great to justify keeping Donald Trump in office simply because he is "pro-life," which he is not. He could care less about babies or Christianity. He just played up to religious right just to get elected. I guarantee that if he does win reelection he will abandon his alliance with the religious right because he won't need them anymore. Wake up!

Brother Holmes,

Joke? What is the “joke” here? More to the point: confused and deluded, deranged?? Please remember that most of the kings of the Israelites were rascals and scoundrels, even worse; yet, God allowed them the throne for X amount of time as we read the Old Testament. Dear Brother, you are choking on a gnat with your obvious expression of hatred (note: what does the Bible teach us about “hating” others?). Your vote for Biden/Harris—-the most progressive candidate this season according to much reporting, and literally one breath away from the Oval Office—-supports abortion (= murder, human sacrifice upon humanism’s altar of expediency and relativism), homosexuality, transgenderism, etc. (= perversion; Satan’s active war against God’s perfect creation before The Fall) , indoctrinating the minds of our young school children that these perverted life choices and styles and Marxism/ Socialism is good and America is bad (= causing “these little ones to stumble”—and, surely you know what Scripture says the penalty for doing so is).

Your obvious vitriol against this man, imperfect as he is, enlightens as to the spiritual condition now pervasive within the Body of Christ who think and act as you: You have your eyes on the wrong man; as the old hymn we all love says: “ Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full upon His wonderful face; and, the things of Earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His marvelous grace.”

Dear Brother Holmes, please, please, consider the condition of your heart and the focus of your eyes; please! Your evidently have “little ones” under your leadership looking to you, capable of being manipulated by you and others of this group of “30 Pro-Life Evangelicalast for Biden(/Harris—don’t forget Harris)!

In Christ ou Savior, your Brother,

Because Trump has taken a pro-life platform does NOT mean he gets a pass on his ungodly behavior. And that is exactly what the church has done. Its repugnant hypocrisy that has given an already skeptical world even more reason to doubt the transforming power of Christ. Which is worse? Abortion or people losing their souls for all eternity because they were so turned off by the bride of Christ and her hypocrisy that they rejected the Gospel? The Church must give an account!!

Dear Brother Holmes,

Your use of hyperbole fits you like a suit!

You you so bombastically point the accusing finger to the “ungodly behavior” of a sitting President; what of President Clinton or JFK? Do you rather support Biden/Harris here; or, eschew they privilege, the right to participate in our democratic franchise altogether?

Someone being “turned off by the Bride of Christ and her hypocrisy” is as old as Methuselah, and is a fallacy, a crutch required to help them along their own lost way having “told them”. An excuse to not deal with their own deeply disturbed heart problems. Not at all unlike the alcoholic, the drug addict.

I say this in Christian love as my last passing remark here, Brother Holmes: get your eyes off man (eg. this man, in particular) and on Jesus, our Savior, please; get rid of that log, then you will see clearly to properly help others in same regard.

In Christ and fervent love for all the saints!

Dear Brother in Christ,

5,000 signatures = more lambs led astray and “little ones” caused to stumble (see Matthew 18:6; Mark 9:42-47). With your current stance upon this political issue, You ar, among many things not yet to be addressed and delineated here, are stamping upon the righteous and brave legacy, for example, of Diietrich Bonhoeffer and other of the pastors of the Confessing Church who knew well the danger of the position taken by the Lutheran ( State) Church seeking for what you et al call “biblical balance” as they sought so fervently, desperately yet so erringly and dangerously to appease Hitler and the Brown Shirts, then logically forward the Nazis.

Brothers, please, I plead with you: reconsider your thinking, more so your dangerous and wrong-headed preaching and coercive tactics: to cause to stumble is no small matter! Your pronouncement of and illogical (unethical) stance for “biblical balance” has no basis in God’s Word; rather, it is seminary’s version of what originates constantly from the “ivory towers” of sectarian IHEs—theory!

In truth, dear brothers in Christ, your current machinations ( theological or theoretical???) aimed at manipulating, thus controlling the minds and actions of fellow Believers in Jesus Christ as God Almighty and only Savior of humanity, votes in an unbiblical and ghastly, yea wicked direction (eg. close your eyes to mass murder of historical numbers in order to get government-controlled social programs) derive from your animus toward one man: Donald J. Trump, then candidate, now duly elected President because of some of his behaviors. How small-minded, yea childish; more to the point in regards to your current coercive calculations: dangerous, eternally so!!

Please, brother, re-think your erroneous, ruinous (eg “little ones”) position.

I am well aware of my failures in my journey of faith these 50+ years; well aware the damage caused by sin and rebellion and lackluster/slovenly attitude over the years. As Believers, we are/I am guilty of failing/forgetting my Savior, Who gave His All for me; but as with Peter, and multitudinous millions after know the powerful and sweet love of forgiveness! This issue brings afresh to my mind my failings—“my sins are ever before me” (ex.).

Again, dear brother, stop and consider what it is exactly that you and your fellow evangelical leaders for Biden/Harris are doing to Believers individually and, more importantly, the cause of Christ generally.

Yours faithfully on Christ,

Dr. Ronny Welborn, EdD, pHCLE

This is what I would tell "reflexive Christians", who go along with the apparent consensus but don't consider the cost of real discipleship:

Judas Iscariot was a member of a political sect called the Zealots. The Zealots were, well, zealous about having political power over the Romans and would do anything to get it. Judas followed Jesus when he thought Jesus was seeking an earthly, political revolution, but when he saw that this was not the plan, he betrayed him. Any of us who abandon Christ and HIS teachings in favor of one who promises political power in exchange for loyalty is taking the road of Judas. There is no middle ground. Christ’s way, God the Father’s way, is love not hatred.

For some, Christianity has truly meant following Christ’s example of love and grace. For others, the “Christian” mantle is merely a vehicle for advancing a quest for power. They have sold out Jesus in favor of political power through Trump. Paul said that “they will know we are Christians by our love”. No real Christian could have anything to do with Trump’s doctrine of fear and hatred. No real Christian would ever lock a child in a cage away from his or her mother and father in order to “Make America Great Again”. If one claims allegiance to Christ, taking this path is an admission of apostasy. People in America who identify themselves as “Christian” need to consider that voting for such a person as Trump has something to do with their soul and salvation. An actual, real disciple of Christ knows what a demagogue is, cringes at the hatred and the apostasy, and could never support such a person.

So? The "hatred" is with the abortion-party, the Democrats. Have you seen any love from them or their liberal press towards Donald Trump or those who support his policies? Your post is a big straw man. We don't support Trump for "political power." We can play the "real Christian" card too, with a lot better reason. You are talking about children in "cages" (funny that the first pictures of that were from the Obama era) and say no person can vote for that (as if that's what's on the mind of Trump supporters), yet Christians can and should vote to support dismembering unborn babies? Or letting babies lucky enough to escape the abortionist die without any aid? That's what "real Christians" want? I don't think so.

I agree with the endorsement of Joe Biden, but I have to push back (when opportunity like this provides) on the notion that abortion is a key political/public service issue. There are so many other really crucial pro-life issues--health care, climate crisis, gun violence--where your vote can make a difference that choosing an issue like whether to increase government limits on abortion is patently uncomparable.

No "pro-lifer" in office or on SCOTUS is going to save one unborn child by trying to legislate morality (what Republicans et al pro-lifers like to say to condemn legislation not related to abortion). The (Bill) Clinton formulation "safe, legal, and rare", while simplistic, is the proven better practical approach, inasmuch as no moralizing by any hypocritical party (esp on pro-life) will have the desired effect. If you want to stoke division, gridlock, and endlessly indecisive laws, support hard-line anti-abortion legalisms and laws. If you want to save babies' lives, discourage in any morally defensible way possible the practice of abortion and consistently practice pro-life policies.

Vernon G Snyder's avatar

We have legislated morality and must legislate it. Laws against murder, rape, and stealing is the legislation of morality. We need laws against the murder of unborn babies. Those laws will act as a disincentive as well as will be a teacher and eventually abortion will not be seen as a legitimate "choice" but as a shameful thing to do. There will be a stigma to abortion again that it rightly deserves. There is no such thing as a "safe" abortion, and I hope I don't need to explain why I would say that.

It's very sad that alleged Christian pro-lifers have bought into some kind of tortured logic that it is "pro-life" to vote for pro-abortion candidates.

I am saddened and grieved that my brothers and sisters in Christ are hijacking the pro-life banner and using it to support a party that is completely opposed to its true meaning. You cannot equate the other matters with the deliberate killing of 60 million innocent unborn children.

If you are truly "pro-life" then where have you been the last 47 years, when we have marched, prayed, supported ministries such as AlphaCare, Every Good Gift, the Pro-Life Union, and laid down our bodies so that children would not die at abortion chambers? Will you really give your support to the Biden/Harris team, when Harris prosecuted those who exposed Planned Parenthood - a racist and evil organization - when it was selling body parts from babies?

Please rethink what you are saying. I can understand why you strongly dislike President Trump, but don't support those who encourage baby killing, undermining marriage and gender, and would move us towards socialism... unless that is what you really want for America.

I am positive that all these people signing up were already voting for Biden. There is not a single truly prolife person who would cast his or her vote for Biden/Harris. What you don’t understand is that for pro life people there’s no such thing as “on the fence”. Instead there is a line in the sand. Biden will not get a single pro life vote and you can take that to the bank.

You say “ Above all, pray! I pray that all God’s people beg God to show them how to vote this year. And I pray that the outcome is shalom, well-being, for all God’s children and the earth.” All God’s children you say? What about those born alive and left to die after an abortion attempt? What about the partially born ones who have their brains sucked out while alive? What about the pain babies endure while their limbs are torn from their bodies? Biden/Harris are opposed to protecting those children of God, so what about them?

Your own words have shown you to be a total hypocrite.

You do know you’re going to the lake of fire for this? Matthew 18:6: ““If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.”

Wow...nothing like twisting scripture. I didn't know unborn babies had the cognitive ability to believe in Jesus or that abortion is causing unborn babies to stumble. How about this verse:

"I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech." Proverb 8:13

This is the very definition of Donald Trump and the Evangelical Right has lost all credibility, permanently damaging the advancement of the Gospel, because they laud him as God's chosen when God hates the very essence of who Donald Trump is.

Dear Brother Holmes,

I do not espouse the notion of “God’s chosen...” to our President as, say, with King Saul and King David, Samuel before them; I do say that God in His Omniscient Power has allowed Donald Trump to be our President, as with President Barack Obama before him. Further, and more to the present point, please see communication below as your eyes, perhaps even the “eyes of your understanding” are most definitely focused in the wrong place, on the wrong man: turn your eyes upon Jesus for I fear, as with Dr Rosenthal below, your gaze, at present, while there is still time, is myopic!
